101 Reasons Why Young Women Are Coming Back To The Land

Starting around the 2020s, young women started returning to women's land. I challenged myself to come up with 101 reasons why this phenomenon is happening. Here goes:  

  1. The lesbians are on the land 
  2. Many women's lands have wi-fi now
  3. Living on women's land is less expensive than renting in this economy 
  4. Connect with nature
  5. Remote work is more available, making living on women's land more possible
  6. Prefer to live in community than living alone 
  7. Deep need for mentorship from older/other women 
  8. Looking for lesbian community 
  9. Interested in centering women in their life
  10. Learning trade skills from women who want to teach them
  11. Learning self-sufficiency skills, like using power tools or growing food
  12. NO MEN!!!
  13. Just really want some peace and quiet, dammit
  14. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life 
  15. Live more intentionally  
  16. Challenge what it means to be a young woman in today's world
  17. Have a coming-of-age experience 
  18. Learn about sustainable living
  19. Reduce your carbon footprint 
  20. Create a fulfilling life outside of traditional society 
  21. Heal from past trauma 
  22. Find a supportive, nurturing community
  23. Grow and thrive on your own terms
  24. Connect with other women who have shared experiences
  25. Get away from social media 
  26. Get a built-in social network
  27. Live a more intentional life
  28. Cultivate a connection to the earth
  29. Make friends with women who share some of your values 
  30. Get through a breakup, women's land has many shoulders to cry on
  31. Live a simpler, more minimalist lifestyle 
  32. Find a sense of community
  33. Feel like you belong
  34. Learn practical skills from women in areas like woodworking, organic farming, and sustainable living 
  35. Challenge gender norms, do things that women aren't "supposed to do"
  36. Experience a sense of sisterhood 
  37. Live as a lesbian separatist, if you so choose
  38. Settle into a community that centers around women's experiences
  39. Escape the traditional landlord/tenant relationship
  40. Witness older women thriving as they age
  41. Try out co-living with other women
  42. Always have someone to talk to
  43. Get a chance to regularly share meals with other women
  44. Have someone to borrow sugar or eggs from
  45. Know that somebody would notice if you died
  46. Have regular projects to work on on the land
  47. Know your contributions are appreciated
  48. Feel safer knowing there are no men around 
  49. Actually know your neighbors
  50. Feel seen as a GNC woman 
  51. Find older women who can be role models
  52. Potentially find detrans-friendly space 
  53. Make bonfires with other women 
  54. Be constantly touching grass
  55. Join a tradition that dates back to the 70s 
  56. Find women who will encourage you to write and make art
  57. Feel supported when you're going through a hard time
  58. Have women ask "How are you?" and actually mean it
  59. Coexist to an extent with local wildlife
  60. Wear overalls every day if you want
  61. Awaken to sunrise magic
  62. Watch sunset with your new friends
  63. Be a part of history in the making
  64. Be a passive activist
  65. Be an active pacifist
  66. Live with people who know how to agree to disagree
  67. Learn new methods of conflict resolution
  68. Camping but better and it's FULL TIME
  69. Feel female solidarity 
  70. Howl at the moon with other women
  71. Indulge in some primal screaming
  72. Form long-lasting, deep friendships with women 
  73. Learn how to manage a rural women's community
  74. Find a relatively safe and supportive environment 
  75. Somewhere you can be yourself 
  76. Get away from people who discriminate based on your sexuality
  77. Wear whatever you want without people staring
  78. Get invited to invite-only women's gatherings
  79. Subvert societal expectations
  80. Find community when you're travelling in many states in the US
  81. Great place to host a consciousness-raising group
  82. Find rare first-edition copies of women's literature 
  83. If you're vegan you'll probably meet other vegans
  84. Someone can almost certainly teach you to read tarot 
  85. Spending quality time with women off the internet
  86. Have a safe place to go to destress
  87. It's hard to find places to make friends in your 20s
  88. Many women's lands have a cute cat (or cats) 
  89. The apps are soul-crushing
  90. Finding motivation in spending time with women who are constantly growing
  91. Heal from body-image issues
  92. Some women's lands have adorable farm animals to take care of
  93. Use cheaper rent to focus on themselves 
  94. Use cheaper rent to focus on making art
  95. Get out of the subsistence mindset
  96. Meet different kinds of women than you're used to
  97. Hear fascinating stories from older women about times past
  98. Discover the joys (and trials!) of intergenerational connection
  99. Always have other women you can swap war stories about your exes with 
  100. Meet women who share a love of women's music 
  101. Return to your wild roots

Expect to undergo a vetting process that can be as quick as a phone call or as extensive as an in-person meetup.
