How To Create An Anonymous Email

So, there's any number of reasons you might want to have an anonymous email, but let's assume you want one so that you can fill out this form while preserving your privacy.

Basically, what you can do is create a new, full email account with the provider of your choice (like Gmail) while lying about every single part of your personal details, including your real name and birthday.

Step 1

Make an email account with your preferred provider.

Step 2

Instead of using your real name, you can put something generic, like "Women's Land" for the first name field and "Hawaii" for the last name field. Or you can put a pen name, like "Julie Smith" etc.

NOTE: Keep in mind that when you send and receive email with this new email address, the name you put will be visible to people who email you.

Step 3

When you create your account, you'll typically be asked for your birthdate. Instead of using your real date of birth, pick a random date. Make a note of that date somewhere in case you need to use it for account recovery if you ever forget your password.

Step 4

Set a new password for your new email account.

A secure password typically is:

  • longer than 8 characters
  • includes a special character, like &$#*%
  • includes a capital letter
  • includes a number

A really easy way to come up with a secure password is to use this free password generator

Make sure you also note down your password somewhere, so you don't forget it. Don't use the same password you use for something else.

It's a real pain setting up a secure password, but it's solid practice for internet safety and making sure you're the only one who has access to your new email account.

Step 5

Set up your new email to forward to your regular email.

To do so, follow the instructions in this article about automatic email forwarding for Gmail

Your new email address will show up on the map like this! This gives young women who find the map on the internet a way to contact you so you can vet them through your usual process.

Once your new email is set up, go ahead and fill out this form to have your women's land added to the Women's Land Map.
